Finding the best online singing teachers 2020

Updated: Jul 13

The Internet can be a minefield when it comes to finding the right singing teachers and courses.

Here is some information which I hope will help you.

  1. When you search 'Online Singing Teacher', the first couple of pages are often filled with companies who have a lot of advertising funding behind them. This does not always mean that they are the best route to finding the best teacher for you, so you may want to do a little more research.

  2. There are a lot of companies who sign up singing teachers, promote them on their sites and then take a large percentage of the teachers earnings. Some of these larger companies do not always do the proper checks in to their teachers as well, so it is not always the best route to finding a teacher. If you do see a teacher you like the look of, you may want to see if you can find out more information about them, outside of the site.

  3. Cheap lessons often means that the teacher is less qualified or has little experience. In 2020 you should expect to pay £25(per 1 hour) and upwards for a good teacher. As an example, I attended a professional music college in the early 90's and the teachers charged around £60 per hour. This was professional level tuition.

  4. If there is a singer you love, see if you can find out who their teacher is!

  5. I would suggest approaching independent teachers, or smaller independent teaching collectives as much as possible. You can find some real gems of teachers!

  6. When you find a teacher you like the look of, investigate their training. What is their industry experience? See if they are skilled in the areas you want to develop and also check out their reviews.

  7. Don't be afraid to contact the people who have reviewed them, or ask for references.

  8. The world is a big place, so why not search outside of the local area!

  9. Book an online lesson with a teacher you like and give it a go! You can always stop lessons and find another teacher if one doesn't suit you.

  10. Word of mouth is a great thing! Ask around and see if anyone has any recommendations.

  11. Be careful with online tutorials. Some can be great but singing is a very personal thing and one method does not suit all!
